Blending the sweetness of honey, the spice of sriracha, and a savory-salty pop, this quick and easy trail mix brings together a trifecta of flavors to make a highly-cravable trail snack.
It’s easy to get burnt out on a trail mix with only a single dimension. All sweet or all salty. It’s fine at first but can become so boring before long.
In our opinion, the hallmark of a good trail mix is a diversity of flavor and texture. We want something new and exciting happening in each and every bite, and this sweet and spicy trail mix delivers exactly that.
Obviously, we have a blend of different flavors: sweet, spicy, and savory. But we also tried to mix up the texture, using peanuts and cashews as well as crunchy pretzels and Chex cereal. This creates a lot of variations of flavor and texture to keep your tastebuds engaged.
So if you’re looking for a quick and easy trail mix for a day hike or camping snack, give this Sweet and Spicy Sriracha Trail Mix a try!
How to make sriracha trail mix + step by step video
This trail mix comes together pretty easily. Watch this quick video to see it in action.
First things first: preheat your oven to 300F.
In a large mixing bowl, stir the Sriracha, honey, and oil together (1). Add the peanuts, cashews, Chex, and pretzels and gently stir until evenly coated (2).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat and then evenly spread the trail mix onto the sheet (3). Bake for 18 minutes or until the trail mix is dry and golden brown (4).
Storage tips
This trail mix will store for several days in an air-tight container at room temperature. Once we’re done making a batch, we like to store them in individual portions in a reusable baggie – these ones from (Re)Zip are perfect. You could also store the whole batch in a tupperware container.
