Camping Cocktail Hack: Make your cocktails ahead of time! By making a big batch of Negronis at home, you can keep the cocktails flowing around the campfire all night long.
The Negroni is one of our favorite go-to cocktails in the summer. A dynamic blend of bitter, dry, and sweet flavors, this Italian cocktail can be somewhat of an acquired taste. But unlike most super sweet summer cocktails, it can be enjoyed all evening long without accidentally giving yourself a sugar rush.
We were introduced to the Negroni just a few years ago, when Michael’s parents came back from a trip to Italy and promptly pronounced 5 pm to be “Negroni Hour”. Ever since then, the drink has become a staple in the van Vliet household.
The cocktail is an equal parts mix of Campari, gin, and sweet vermouth. While this makes mixing the cocktail exceedingly simple, it does require have three bottles of different liquor. Not a problem at home, but a little elaborate for a camping trip. Thankfully you can mix together a big batch ahead of time and take just a single container with you!
We premixed our Negroni into a large Mason Jar, which is just about right for two people for a weekend. For a bigger group, this recipe can be easily scaled up by keeping the ratio 1:1:1. We also add a few slices of orange, which is the traditional garnish. If you want to pre-chill your Negroni mix, find a spot for it in your cooler. Otherwise, you can just pour the room-temperature mix over ice.
If you’re looking for a great cocktail for your next camping trip, but don’t want to spend all night mixing, give this Make-Ahead Negroni concept a try!
