Golden, toasty bread filled with sweet apple pie filling—this easy pie iron dessert is a fall camping classic and a fun alternative to s’mores.
Ingredients
4sliceswhite sandwich breadsoft, fluffy bread works best
½cupcanned apple pie filling
2tbspbutterdivided
Instructions
Place the closed pie iron over the fire for a minute to preheat, then carefully open.
Grease both sides of the pie iron with ½ tbsp butter on each side.

Place a slice of bread on one side of the iron. Spoon in 3–4 tbsp of apple pie filling, leaving a small border around the edges. Top with the second slice of bread.

Close the pie iron, trimming off any excess bread if needed, and lock it shut
Place pie iron over medium campfire coals and cook 3–5 minutes per side, until the bread is golden brown and crisp.
Carefully open the pie iron and let it cool for a minute before removing the pie to serve.
